Is Yuka accurate? It depends on the question
Yuka can accurately summarize the label data and apply its published scoring method when the underlying product record is complete. That does not make the result a personalized health prediction. Accuracy depends on product identification, current label data, the scoring assumptions and context the package does not reveal.

- Identity: did the barcode return the exact product and current formulation?
- Transcription: do nutrition facts and ingredients match the physical label?
- Method: was the published scoring formula applied correctly?
- Interpretation: does that general score answer the individual user's question?
Why cosmetic scores have more uncertainty
EU and US labels generally list ingredients above 1% in descending order, but ingredients at or below 1% may be listed in any order. Exact concentration is usually absent. That makes a concentration-sensitive exposure conclusion difficult to derive from the label alone.
A practical accuracy check
- Confirm the barcode, product name and package size.
- Compare the app's ingredients and nutrition with the package in hand.
- Read the reasons and scientific sources behind the overall score.
- Treat missing concentration, serving and personal-health context as uncertainty.
Questions, answered
Can a Yuka score tell me whether a product is safe?
Not by itself. Safety can depend on dose, exposure route, frequency, age, allergies and other personal factors that a barcode record may not contain.
Can product information become outdated?
Yes. Manufacturers change formulations and packaging. The app record should be checked against the current physical label when the decision matters.
Does a low score mean I must never use or eat the product?
No. It is a screening signal produced by a particular method, not an individualized instruction or diagnosis.
